Typology description - Craftsman
Life is artistic work for these people who account for around 7 %. They try everything only once, this is what applies to them to a large extent . They fit into a role of lonely adventurer. They are able to risk more than other types irrespective of the fact that from time to time, and sometime even quite often, they 'get bitten'.
They often go to fight even where there is a small chance of them winning. They nurture on excitement and adrenaline. People of the Craftsman (hereinafter ISTP) typology do not know why they should be talking to someone. They find pleasure in parachuting, diving (preferably from high altitudes), surfing on the most dangerous waves, and so on. Recruited are also typical crisis managers who brilliantly lead the company out of the loss but who do not want fame nor gratitude from the owners.
ISTP often excellently handle tools and machinery of all kinds, from watch tap to supersonic fighter. Tools and machinery attract them like magnets as far as childhood. Their 'play' with tools mostly stems from individual impulses and not based on plans or outside schedules.
ISTP can also be very rebellious in relation to authorities and hierarchy unless they deserve, according to them, obedience. Both superiority and subordination is often for them something useless and outdated. Their rebellion does not take form of active resistance. Rather it takes form of lack of interest and disregard.
Most of their psychic energy is dedicated usually to their subjective consideration and assessment of what given facts and information mean mainly for them. Their expressing is also meagre. As quickly as ISTP assail the action they can equally unexpectedly withdraw from it.
Let's not influence them at the moment when something has occurred to them; our chances are minimal. Similarly to ISFP they communicate mostly via actions and they do not strive to develop their verbal skills. Their spirit is focused on crafts rather then science.
A classic approach to teaching, e.g. to piano playing, lies in the study of notes and practice of scale. ISTP, however, knows nothing about such method since they do not want to play any scales but compositions. They are great practitioners in applied science, engineering fields, mechanics, and they also can excel as lawyers or investment analysts. Therefore, in general there may exist many world-famous musicians, actors and artists who do not know notes or never went to any professional music school. The same applies to many craftsmen and generally to masters in the domains based on certain kind of bodily, e.g. manual, skill.
The ISTP type is more typical for men. ISTP-women can often use their strengths more easily at work than at home. But for men it is not easy to accept among them a woman who does 'manly' work better than themselves. Since it is not easy for these women to find a partner, and they can remain alone more often than other types, it happens that they 'marry' their hobby or work. We can find them in occupations as diverse as nature reserve manager, traumatology specialist, investigative journalist, assistant in law enforcement authorities or sport instructors.
Among strengths of ISTP are the ability of self-motivation, self-start and entirely independent work. They do not need supervision, they even hate it. They deliver most of the things on time; however, their time and period do not have to necessarily match yours. They hate limitations and too many structures such as binding schedules, chart flows or methods of critical paths.
ISTP do not understand that a man does not have to really 'do' the thing in order to comprehend and know it. They do not like to reconcile to the fact that the director did not have to be a great actor in order to know what the protagonists should do, nor he has to be a great dramatist to recognise a good play. Their concentration on logics of things sometimes hinders them from seeing positive sides, from considering human side and from e.g. appreciating and praising others.
Their orientation on the action sometimes prevents them from thinking ahead. ISTP is a peculiar type. Without these people the world would never be complete. Often it is difficult to find a place for them; in short: they 'do not fit'. However, if something is the right thing for them, they become irreplaceable and unrivalled.
Should INTP be unsettled they can resort to defence, to be tragic, fearsome, over-sensitive and hysterical, reluctant, stubborn and touchy. They can avoid people and the whole world and completely retreat. Rather than reality the feelings and imaginations can be reflected in them. Consequently they are in danger that as long as the facts, data and reality do not correspond with their theories and opinions they ignore them.
Their impersonal orientation may be manifested in many forms, from shyness to anti-social attitudes or behaviour. As for the former, we can be dealing with naive or socially awkward people who are self-absorbed. As for the latter, it concerns non-communicative isolated nerds, indifferently ignoring daily concerns, but who are easy to be used for different ideologies.
In the domain of interpersonal relations they can be black-and-white, a classic manifestation of primitive feeling. They may not infer what others feel, and usually it must be said to them in plain English. Which is why they can experience that they manifest themselves towards the needs and desires of others thoughtlessly and insensitively.
